This guide is brought to you by Q-Fi Cloud, where we make hosting for gamers and businesses simple, reliable, and fast.
If you’ve bought a domain name (like example.com) and a VPS or game server, the next step is connecting them so visitors or players can reach your server by typing your domain instead of a long IP address.
Let’s walk through it step by step.
Step 1: Find Your Server’s IP Address
-
Log in to your Q-Fi Cloud panel (or your hosting provider’s dashboard).
-
Look for your public IPv4 address (something like
123.45.67.89
). -
Copy it—you’ll need this for DNS setup.
Step 2: Log In to Your Domain Registrar
Go to the website where you registered your domain (like Namecheap, GoDaddy, Google Domains, etc.).
-
Find the DNS Management or Nameserver Settings section.
-
If you’re using Cloudflare, log in there instead.
Step 3: Create an “A Record”
The A record tells your domain to point to your server’s IP.
-
Add a new record:
-
Type: A
-
Name/Host:
@
(means your root domain, e.g. example.com) -
Value: Your server’s IP (e.g.
123.45.67.89
) -
TTL: Leave default (Auto or 3600).
-
Save the record.
Step 4: (Optional) Add a Subdomain for Your Game Server
If you’d like something like play.example.com:
-
Add another record:
-
Type: A
-
Name/Host:
play
-
Value: Your server’s IP
-
TTL: Default
-
Now players can connect using play.example.com
.
Step 5: Wait for DNS to Update
DNS changes usually update within 15 minutes to 2 hours, but in some cases, it may take up to 24 hours.
Be patient—this is completely normal.
Step 6: Test Your Domain
-
For websites: Type your domain in a browser.
-
For game servers: Open the game (Minecraft, FiveM, etc.), enter your domain, and connect.
If it doesn’t work immediately, clear your DNS cache or wait a little longer.
Common Issues (and Fixes)
-
❌ Domain still points to old host → Remove old records.
-
❌ Server not loading → Make sure the firewall/ports are open.
-
❌ Slow propagation → Use WhatsMyDNS.net
✅ Done! Now your domain points directly to your VPS or game server. No more sharing long, messy IP addresses.
